Declarations for Dating Without Fear
Does the thought of dating make you nervous?
A lot of people feel anxious about dating or being in a committed relationship. This fear can manifest itself in different ways—some of them quite unique!
This week at BTO, we’re praying that you’ll be able to embrace the dating relationship God has for you without fear.
Fear is not the same thing as common sense. Fear is rooted in lies. We don’t ever have to listen to fear because it’s unholy and cannot be trusted.
Here are three Bible-based statements that are true in YOUR LIFE right now. Your heavenly Father loves you, and you don’t have to live in fear of the future.
Try to read these statements out loud a few times this week until your heart starts to realize they’re true:
1. I declare that my eyes are fixed on Jesus! I look away from what-if questions and what could go wrong, and I start expecting God to act as God in my life.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. (Heb. 12:1–2 NIV)
Meditate on Hebrews 12:1–2 and deeply consider how it applies to your situation. What is God saying to you through it?
His voice in your heart might sound something like this:
“I have a perfect road set before you, and My plans for you are good. Don’t be afraid to trust Me with the deepest desires of your heart. I am a good Father, and I will always treat you kindly and with great compassion. Whenever you have questions, look at Me. Make Me your focus instead of the voice of fear.”
2. I declare I am fearless because God is with me! I expect to succeed in this relationship, not fail.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (Ps. 16:8 NIV)
What does it mean to keep your eyes on the Lord while you’re getting to know someone? Consider how Psalm 16:8 might apply to your dating life. Be bold in your thoughts, and write down what you feel the Lord is showing you through this verse.
God LOVES to speak to His kids. As you meditate on this verse, He might tell your heart something like this:
“Today you get to worship instead of be afraid. Whenever you feel shaky today, turn your attention to Me and entrust to Me the thing that’s scaring you. I am with you, and I love you, and My heart is yours.”
3. I declare God has good plans for me, and He will be faithful to every promise He’s made me! I am not afraid of the future or of making mistakes.
I pray with great faith for you, because I’m fully convinced that the One who began this glorious work in you will faithfully continue the process of maturing you and will put his finishing touches to it until the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ! (Phil. 1:6 TPT)
Ask God to show you how Philippians 1:6 applies to you and your dating life. What is He doing inside you? What is He up to in your life right now? Write down what you feel like He’s saying.
His voice might sound like this:
“The work I am doing in you is truly glorious. I have not forgotten about you, and don’t ever think you are outside My love! I know what I am doing with you, and you will get to see the beautiful things My heart has in store for yours.”
Before you go!
When we make declarations, the goal is to speak God’s will. Not our will, but His. We want everything we say to line up with His heart and what He wants for our lives.
This gives us radical boldness—we are declaring what HE has said! The words of the Lord don’t return to Him void (Isa. 55:11).
Here’s our prayer for you this week:
Heavenly Father,
This week we ask that You would minister to our readers who are struggling with fear in their dating lives. Please give them greater discernment and help them to see when they’re afraid so they can turn and look at You instead. Give them the gift of boldness in the very areas where they have been fearful! Thank You for the great plans You have for them and the tender way You treat them. We look forward to hearing all the stories of how You moved in their lives as they trusted You in this area of dating.
