Finding Peace in Fierce Storms (Prayers & Declarations)

In the middle of a worldwide pandemic, it can feel like everything is different now. Fear invites us to do weird things and make strange decisions because we feel out of our element.

But even in fierce storms, God is the Rock—the strong foundation of your life, steadfast and comforting.

At BTO this week, we’re praying Psalm 16:8 over you:

I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (NASB)

May you be able to set the truth of God before your face, so it is right there every time you need it, and you can view the world through it.

To help you keep your peace in this season, here are a few simple reminders of who God is and what He’s like. You may want to read the following points out loud as declarations over your life.

Declaration 1: God can take a bad situation and cause it to produce gold for me.

We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)

Think about what that verse really means:

  • No matter what happens, God will use it for your good.

  • All things are in His hand. He can use all things, and He can work all things out for your benefit.

  • You have a purpose on the earth, and that purpose remains even when the world goes crazy. You can still do exactly what God has called you to do.

  • You won’t miss out.

Pray and invite God closer: Father, please help me to feel Your nearness today. I pray that I would emerge closer than ever to You. I know this storm is just clay in Your hands, and I know You’re working this situation to my advantage and doing good things in the midst of it.

Declaration 2: The One I love doesn’t leave me. He is with me even when I feel scared or alone. My heart can’t beat without Him.

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me. (Ps. 23:4)

Think about what that verse really means:

  • God is with you even in the darkest, worst times.

  • It’s possible to find comfort in God even when fear says you can’t.

  • There’s NEVER any reason for you to be afraid.

Pray and invite God closer: Father, I agree with Your Word and declare that You are with me right now. You have not changed who You are, nor have You lessened Your love for me. I look to You with great hope.

Declaration 3: God gives me rest in storms. I can dwell in the shadow of His wings and fall asleep in His arms.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (Ps. 91:1)

Think about what that verse really means:

  • You get to DWELL in the shelter of God. You can move there and stay there.

  • You are fully welcome to come and find rest in His shadow.

  • All the fear and turmoil roll away when you’re in His presence.

  • God’s name Almighty means He provides everything you need—the way a mother provides for her baby. The child can rest perfectly content in her arms because all their needs are met.

Pray and invite God closer: Father, I want to dwell in the shelter of Your wings. That’s what I want, God. I choose You as my refuge, and I place all my fears and concerns in Your hands.

Before you go!
