God Shares Your Emotions with You

Many of us have trouble picturing the Lord taking care of us when we experience intense emotions. We often feel like we’re on our own or that God has better things to do, but the Bible says that He is deeply involved in what we are experiencing emotionally.

Rejoice with those who rejoice [sharing others’ joy], and weep with those who weep [sharing others’ grief]. (Rom. 12:15 AMP)

That is what the Lord is like. He shares what we are going through. He doesn’t push away our strong emotions, and He doesn’t dismiss our chaos and fear and anguish. Our emotions don’t embarrass Him.

Right now as you read this, He knows exactly what you are feeling.

When we mourn a loss, He mourns with us. He is with us in the sorrow and tears.

When we are grieving an event, He experiences our grief with us.

When we are excited because something amazing just happened, He is excited too.

He would not tell us to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep if He weren’t already doing these things with us Himself.

God is with us more than we think. Here are a few everyday, practical emotions God shares with us.

If your heart is mourning because you are single, God is not separate from that emotion. He feels what you are feeling. He has opened Himself to you and doesn’t hold back. That is what love does—it opens the heart and keeps it open. If you are grieving because you are lonely and want to meet the right person, He is with you.

Or maybe you’re in a season of working through some deep wounds. God feels all of that with you. You are not going through this healing season alone, but He is holding your hand. Every victory you get, He is rejoicing with you. “Well done, child!” Every time you fall down and have to repeat a step, He is lifting you up and helping you find your footing again.

Are you grieving because of an injustice that has happened to you or your family? God is not separate from those deep emotions in your heart. He sees all from beginning to end. He is with you, and He is the One who rights wrongs. He is mourning with you, and later in the story when He brings justice, He will rejoice with you.

This week…

The next time you feel something strongly, take a moment and consider that God is right there with you in that emotion. He is grieving with you, and He is rejoicing with you.
