God Your Rock

Do you feel overwhelmed because life isn’t going the way you thought it would?

Or is God inviting you out of your comfort zone—but you really liked your old comfort zone, and trying to live outside that zone makes you uneasy?

Whenever we feel vulnerable—for a big reason or something small—it’s good to remind our heart of what God is like. He is our rock and safe place. The vulnerable ones find shelter in His shadow.

He Is Your Strong One

Read the following passage, and consider it from this perspective: “This is what God is like in my life right now.”

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn [strength] of my salvation, my stronghold.

I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from my enemies. (Ps. 18:2–3 NIV)

When you really, really need something firm and steady, God is your strength. That means it’s okay if you don’t feel strong right now, because He can be strong for you. It’s okay if you’re struggling to get through this season. Look at the Lord, and see who He is in your life.

  • As your rock, He is your steadiness.

  • As your fortress, He is your safe place.

  • As your Deliverer, He is the One who saves you.

  • As your shield, He protects you from attack.

  • As the strength of your salvation, He is the One who makes sure you survive and escape.

  • As your stronghold, He can handle whatever comes at you.

If you feel overwhelmed or intensely vulnerable right now, run to your rock. Let your heart dwell on your heavenly Father, and allow Him to be your steadiness when nothing else is steady.

A Prayer for This Week

The following prayer is based on Psalm 18:2–3:

Father God, You are my strength. Thank You that I don’t have to reach inside myself to find some hidden reservoir of power. You are my reservoir of power, and You flow through me powerfully.

You are my rock. I am steady because You are steady. I am strong because You are strong.

You are my fortress. You are the safe place where I can rest and hide. I am not unprotected. I am not alone. You surround me on every side.

You are my Deliverer. I do not have to be my own deliverer, because You fill that role for me. You are the strong One who saves me. It is like I have no enemies because of You and Your vast strength, which You eagerly use on my behalf.

Thank You, Father, for everything You are and everything You are doing in my life.
