Reviving Your Heart

The human heart needs the words of the Lord. It actually cannot live without them (Matt. 4:4).

Many people are just exhausted right now. The last four years have been so hard, and the world feels like a foreign place. We need our life restored, and Joshua 1:8 tells us how:

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (NIV)

Some people read that verse and disconnect from it, assuming it’s an Old Testament rule or something that isn’t necessary today. But the truth is God’s words are life for us. They are the very life we desperately need right now. Whether He speaks to us through His Word or through the still, small voice mentioned in Scripture, we need what He says. The more we fill our mind and heart with His words, the more life we will have.

Reviving the Heart

Today, if you’re in a place where you feel “cold” or disconnected from the Lord, if you just feel so very weary, confused, or overwhelmed—you may want to start spending more time in the Bible.

It doesn’t have to be hours or even huge portions of Scripture. It could be just one verse that speaks to you. If you can find that one verse and start thinking about it, praying into it, and speaking it out loud, your heart will begin to feel more alive again. That’s what being in God’s presence does. Your heart needs His voice.

Remember, you don’t have to depend on your own wisdom or knowledge to do this. You can ask the Lord to help you hear His voice and connect with His Word. He loves us, and He wants to help us more than we realize we need the help.

Open my eyes to see
the wonderful truths in your instructions. (Ps. 119:18 NLT)

Declarations of Life

Here are some simple declarations based on God’s Word. One of the following statements might help you hear God’s voice or at least give you a starting point if you feel uncertain.

  • I am filled with joy because of the Lord (Ps. 9:2).

  • He is so very kind to me (Rom. 2:4).

  • He protects me because I belong to Him (Ps. 14:6).

  • He shelters me when I’m in trouble (Ps. 9:9).

  • He doesn’t leave me in times of trouble, but He comes to my rescue and makes sure my enemies lose (Isa. 41:12–13).

  • He is helping me (Isa. 41:13).

  • My heart and my flesh deeply desire the Lord (Ps. 84:2).

  • His presence makes me happy (Ps. 16:11).

  • The voice of the Lord is precious and valuable to me (Ps. 12:6).

  • The Lord loves me more sincerely and more deeply than I can imagine (Ps. 13:5; Eph. 3:20).

  • The Lord has been incredibly good to me (Ps. 13:6).

  • I am wise because I am seeking Him (Ps. 14:2).

May your heart be refreshed in the presence of the Lord, beloved child of God. You are so very precious to Him, and you matter to Him more than you know.
