Worshiping God by Enjoying Your Life Right Now

Sometimes we put exciting life events up on a pedestal.

“When I meet the right person, my life will be complete.”

“When I have a better job, then I’ll finally be happy.”

“When I’m out of debt, I can finally relax and enjoy myself. Until then, I’m just powering through.”

But the kingdom of God has a different way of looking at life. We get to enjoy life now, even before we experience the event we are waiting for. That event is a good thing, but in the end, it is not the primary reason we are joyful. He is.

You have given me greater joy
than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. (Ps. 4:7 NLT)

One of the most powerful things we can do while waiting for an important life event is just enjoy the Lord and what He has already given us. Waiting becomes much easier when our eyes are on God instead of the thing we are waiting for. If we are fixated on what we don’t have yet, we will drive ourselves crazy! But if we are focused on Him, our heart will be peaceful.

“I want to meet the right person, but I am not worried about it. My heart is at rest because I know God is working.”

“I feel like God told me He has a better job for me than what I’m expecting.”

“God is giving me ideas for getting out of debt. He’s also showing me where to go to get help. I have more peace now than I did before.”

All the Simple Blessings

Some people get caught up in what they are waiting for, but what they are waiting for is secondary. Real joy is found in simply and sweetly appreciating Jesus and the wonderful things He has already made available to you. He is the One who makes the life event, whatever it is, worth the wait.

We worship the Lord as we enjoy and are thankful for what He has already given us:

Everything God made is good. We should not put anything aside if we can take it and thank God for it. It is made holy by the Word of God and prayer. (1 Tim. 4:4–5 NLV)

No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thess. 5:18 TLB)

Enjoying Your Life

This week, look around and appreciate the small things God has already given you. Where do you see His goodness and gifts? What are you thankful for? Become aware of His quiet majesty all around you.

May we not become so focused on the life event we want that we miss worshiping our Father for what He is doing in our life right now.
