He Is with You in Trouble
Are you in trouble? Is there a situation that scares you—or feels too big for you to handle?
Every time you are in trouble, Psalm 91:14–15 applies to you and your situation:
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.” (Ps. 91:14–15 NIV)
What does it mean for the Lord to be with you in trouble?
Here are a few simple ideas about who He is and the help He provides. If you are struggling—with anything—this week, think about these ideas, and ask the Lord to speak to you about them.
1. In times of trouble, you are not alone.
Many of us have not learned how reliable the Lord is. You, beloved child of God, are not alone in this trouble you’re facing. The Lord is with you. He is supporting you.
They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
but the Lord was my support. (2 Sam. 22:19 ESV)
2. When you’re in trouble, the Lord will help you.
When you feel exhausted and incredibly weak, that is when the Lord will help you. You don’t have to find your strength first, before He shows up—He will give you strength.
“You few people of Israel who are left,
do not be afraid even though you are weak as a worm.
I myself will help you,” says the Lord.
“I am the one who saves you, the Holy One of Israel.” (Isa. 41:14 ICB)
3. When you’re in trouble, the Lord knows what to do.
God has the answer. What is He telling you to do? What is the Holy Spirit whispering to your heart?
Listen for His voice, seek others’ counsel (if you need to), and then do whatever God is saying, because His answer for you is the BEST answer.
The Lord says, “I will make you wise. I will show you where to go.
I will guide you and watch over you.” (Ps. 32:8 ICB)
4. Whenever you’re in trouble, the Lord will save you and turn the situation around for your good.
Your love for the Lord is a big deal in the spiritual realm. When you call on Him, here is what He will do:
He will answer you.
He will be with you. (His presence is FULL of joy! See Psalm 16:11.)
He will rescue you from the trouble you’re in.
He will make you better off, because He will honor you.
Precious child of God, if you’re in trouble, reach out to your heavenly Father. His heart is FOR you—even if the trouble is something you caused yourself (Ps. 107:10–13). You are His child, and He loves you more than you could ever imagine.
