How to Wait on God Without Losing Your Mind

If you’re reading this, you are probably waiting for something important.

  • For God to bring your spouse

  • For God to heal your mind or body

  • For God to fix a relationship

  • For God to give you a baby

  • For God to open doors for a better job, a better car, paying off debt, etc.

You have the promise. You know what God said He would do. But the wait is, for some inexplicable reason, MUCH longer than you ever thought it would be.

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of trusting the Lord.

It makes us ask uncomfortable questions:

  • Will God do what He promised?

  • Can we trust Him with our desires?

  • Does He care about us as much as the Bible says?

At this point, you probably know what “hope deferred” feels like:

Hope deferred makes the heart sick; but when dreams come true at last, there is life and joy. (Prov. 13:12 TLB)

Beloved child of God, if your heart feels sick, or even slightly woozy, this week’s devotional is for you. ❤️Hopefully, it will help you find much-needed relief as you wait for God to do what He promised.

When we are waiting, we need to believe and apply Psalm 16:8:

I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. (NKJV)

When we set the Lord “before” us, He is the first thing we see. He is right there in front of our face. He is our focus—and this brings freedom. “I have set the Lord always before me. My eyes are on Him.”

That is what makes waiting survivable.

When we are waiting for something important to happen, it’s so EASY to make the desire our focus. “Lord, I want this thing! I need it! Why isn’t it happening? Why aren’t You doing what You promised?”

But waiting becomes possible when we follow Psalm 16:8. We don’t let the desire consume our focus, but we choose to focus on Jesus instead—to set the Lord always before us. When our eyes are on Him, that is the special place where miracles happen. Finally, we are able to take a deep breath and relax, knowing He will do what He said at the right time.
