Keep Asking God for What You Need!
Is it hard to ask the Lord for what is on your heart?
Do you feel like you’ve asked too many times already? Or are you afraid you’re a bother to Him?
If any of those thoughts feel familiar to you, spend a few minutes contemplating this simple verse:
Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord.
Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. (Ps. 5:3 NLT)
That is what your loving heavenly Father is like. He doesn’t wish you would stop asking or get frustrated because you have “yet another” request. He doesn’t get angry or want you to be less “needy” with Him.
You can bring Him all your requests—and then wait expectantly, knowing He treasures you and your words. Your requests are precious to Him because you are precious to Him.
“In every situation” you get to go to the Lord.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Phil. 4:6 NIV)
Your Requests and God’s Heart
What are you asking the Lord for? What has He put on your heart? What do you need from Him? What does your heart long for?
Beloved child of God, don’t be afraid to bring your requests to Him. Let your faith say, “YES!” and stand up inside you—because you can expect God to answer you.
You aren’t bringing “empty” requests to the Lord or pouring your words down a bottomless hole. You are doing something truly sacred. You are making requests of your heavenly Father, who is tender and soft-hearted and exceedingly generous toward you. Don’t be afraid to believe He will answer you.
So I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:9–10 NLT)
You do not have because you do not ask. (Jas. 4:2 NKJV)
He Enjoys Persistent People
If there is something on your heart, keep bringing that request to the Lord.
Don’t be hesitant to make the same request again—and again and again. Keep asking and don’t give up. Contrary to typical human behavior, your heavenly Father loves the persistent askers (Luke 18:1–7).
When you make a request of Him, you are doing exactly what the Bible says to do, which means the asking is worship.
Once a month we gather online to pray for godly marriages and what God wants to do through marriage. This can include praying for healing for people’s hearts, asking God to bring together the couples He has in mind, overcoming fear in relationships, etc. If this topic stirs your heart, please join us! Our next prayer meeting is February 5 at 8:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Your heavenly Father loves you more than you realize! For more about His amazing, unending love, check out Becoming the One by Salomé Roat. Click here to learn more. The book is also available in Spanish.
