Your heart—the core of who you are—is precious to God. He built you in your mother’s womb, and He loves how He made you. When you said “yes” to Jesus and accepted Him as your Lord, you went through an instantaneous, holy process where God made you a new creation.

When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! (2 Cor. 5:17 TLB)

Every believer in Jesus starts here:

All have sinned and missed God’s radiant glory (Rom. 3:23).
The heart is deceitfully wicked (Jer. 17:9).

But now, because of Jesus, we are here:

“You are holy in My sight. You stand before Me without blemish” (Col. 1:22).
“I have given you a new heart that is tender toward Me” (Ez. 36:26).
“You are one spirit with My Son, Jesus” (1 Cor. 6:17).

Your heavenly Father has filled your new heart with longing for Him and His ways. When you agree with Him about who you are, you get to live in a special place of unity with Him that will not only change your life, but it will also influence everyone around you.

This month at Becoming the One, we’ve been talking about a culture of unity: one with God and one with one another. All of us are in the process of growing up in Jesus and becoming more like Him, but even right now as we mature, the truth about us is we are “one spirit” with Jesus. We get to embrace a beautiful culture of unity that starts with Him and spreads outward to include our spouse, our children, our extended family, and other people.

If you have a difficult time agreeing with how God sees you, here are three simple prayers.

A Prayer for Accepting God’s Love

Father, anywhere in my mind or heart where I do not believe how much You love me, please pour Your holy light into that area. Soften my heart, and help me see what is real this Christmas.

A Prayer for Believing God’s Truth about You

Father, if I believe any lies concerning Your heart for me, please forgive me and help me see Your truth. What are You saying about me this Christmas? I want to see You clearly and be united with You heart to heart and mind to mind. Please lead me deeper in Your truth.

A Prayer for Saying “Yes” to God’s Dreams for You

Father, if I have rejected any of the dreams You’ve put in my heart because of fear, doubt, or any other reason, please forgive me and fill me with faith to say “yes” to the amazing future You have for me. Help me take hold of Your promise to me, and prepare me to see You do “impossible” things!

Beloved child of God, you mean more to your heavenly Father than you realize. That will always, every day, be true. Don’t be afraid to believe what He believes about you. Let this be your prayer this Christmas: “Unite my heart to treasure Your name” (see Ps. 86:11).
