The Sight of His Love
As humans, we are very forgetful creatures. Our days blend together in our memory, and we can forget important details that happened in the past, even if they happened just a short time ago: things like how God came through for us, how He answered our prayer, how He spoke to us when we really needed His voice, how He sent someone to help us, etc.
The blessings of the Lord are all around us, but sometimes we have to be purposeful about remembering them and thanking the Lord for them. When we take time to remember how much something meant to us, and we thank Him for that thing all over again, it is a wonderful kind of worship. The beauty of the Lord becomes fresh and alive again in our heart. We start to see His love at a deeper level.
Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. (Ps. 103:2 NLT)
Remembering the Lord Your God
The Bible talks about “remembering” the Lord your God. There is such wonder and delight in remembering Him! As we purposefully ponder and hold in our heart what He has done for us, we see His love at work in our life, and we get to be amazed all over again.
The Bible repeatedly tells God’s people to remember Him. Here are just a few examples:
You shall remember [with profound respect] the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore (solemnly promised) to your fathers, as it is this day. (Deut. 8:18 AMP)
Remember the wonders he has performed,
his miracles, and the rulings he has given. (1 Chron. 16:12 NLT)
Remember the former things of old;
for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me. (Isa. 46:9 ESV)
Think About What He Has Done
What did the Lord do for you in 2023?
What did He say to you? What amazing truths do you have recorded in your journal or maybe on your phone? Which prayers did He answer? What gifts did He give you? Did you see a miracle?
Sometime during the Christmas season, spend a few minutes thinking about the good gifts the Father of Lights brought into your life this year (see Jas. 1:17). You may want to make a list of what He did—even the very small things—so you can look at all of them right in front of you. Then spend time thanking Him for these “pictures” of His love.
Anywhere and everywhere you can find his faithful, unfailing love! (Ps. 33:5 TPT)
