What Does God Say About Your Future?

Marriage catches a lot of people by surprise. Not because it happened unexpectedly or because they fell for somebody who wasn’t on their radar (though that happens quite a lot!).

But marriage can catch people by surprise because of how it forces them to get out of their comfort zone—the way they’ve “always done things.” We have to let go of the way we’ve always done things and trust: trust in our loving heavenly Father and trust in the person we’re falling in love with.

Trust is the foundation of marriage, more than a lot of singles realize. It’s one thing to trust the Lord when only one heart is involved: your own. You are dealing with only your thought process, your way of viewing the world, etc. There is a level of simplicity in singleness that flies out the window when another person gets involved. When it is time to get married, all of us have to learn to trust in new ways.

“How do I know this person is right for me?”

“But, God, You know he and I disagree about where to live. Do You think this relationship is going to work out?”

“What about this area of conflict?”

When we’re dealing with worry and fear, trust is needed.

When we’re trying to hear the Lord’s voice about our relationship, trust is needed.

When we think we know what God is saying, but it will take courage, trust is needed.

When we disagree with our significant other and there doesn’t seem to be a way forward, trust is needed.

Marriage takes a huge amount of trust: trust in God and trust in the other person.

Marriage is a life change that will force you into trust—in the best of ways. The rewards of trust in dating and then marriage are phenomenal! You will find God in a brand-new way as you step outside your comfort zone and follow His leading in your dating life.

Marriage is one of the places where you will experience God the most…because getting to know someone takes so much trust!

This month at Becoming the One, we’re talking about a culture of trust: trusting our Almighty God with everything, including the future and the marriage we are hoping for.

What does God say about your future?

To trust well, we need to know our Father and His heart for us. Here are just a few promises found in Scripture concerning who He is and the future He has for us:

  • He is faithful toward you (Heb. 11:11).

  • He is pleased with you (Ps. 149:4).

  • You delight His heart (Ps. 37:23).

  • He loves the way He made you (Ps. 139:14).

  • He has good things in store for you (Jer. 29:11).

  • He will protect you wherever you go (Gen. 28:15).

  • He is going to bless your generations (Deut. 7:9).

  • You will see a huge blessing on your family because you fear the Lord (Ps. 128:4).
