Declarations for a Courageous Heart
Courage, dear heart.
C. S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
As followers of Jesus, we never have to be brave alone. We get to tap into who He is and lean on His strength every time we leave the familiar behind. He invites us into a world of miracles, where anything is possible in Him. This realm requires courage.
Moving from glory to glory like the Bible talks about is an act of bravery (see 2 Cor. 3:18 NASB). Every time God brings us something new, we need courage.
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deut. 31:6 ESV)
May God fill you with such courage that you become as bold as fire! May you be fully able to rely on Him as you step into the amazing things He has for you.
Here are three Bible-based statements that are true for you today. You are a beloved child of God, and He stands with you! As you follow His quiet leading, you will get to see the incredible fruit of being courageous.
1. I am bold and courageous because I know I’m not alone! God speaks to me and teaches me how to succeed. He knows exactly where I need to go, and He wants to help me get there.
This is what Yahweh, your Kinsman-Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says:
“I am Yahweh, your God.
I am the One who teaches you how to succeed
and who leads you step by step in the way you should go.” (Isa. 48:17 TPT)
Meditate on Isaiah 48:17 and consider how it applies to your situation. How is God speaking to you through this verse?
His voice in your heart might sound like this:
“My child, never be afraid to trust Me and be courageous. I am delighted by your hand in Mine. I treasure My time with you, and I love leading you to the good things I have in store for you and your family. You are Mine, and I rejoice over you more than you realize.”
2. I am incredibly courageous because I look to God for help! The sight of Him fills my heart with GREAT joy, and His way is perfect.
Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
no shadow of shame will darken their faces. (Ps. 34:5 NLT)
God’s way is perfect.
All the Lord’s promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. (2 Sam. 22:31 NLT)
Put your hope in God because His way is perfect for you all the time! Even in those seasons when you have to persevere and wait for Him to move, His plans are good for your heart and all His promises “prove true.”
What is God showing you today? When you quiet yourself and listen for His voice, you might sense Him saying something like this:
“When you look at Me, there’s no room for fear. Fear cannot stay when you are burrowed down in My arms. Ask Me to show you what that means for you—what does it look like for Me to love YOU perfectly? The joy of the Lord will make you radiant.”
3. I declare God is faithful to me! I am courageous because I know He will answer me when I call to Him for help. He makes me utterly fearless.
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jer. 33:3 NIV)
Write down what you feel God is saying to you.
“I love to be with you. You are not a burden to Me—you are My delight! When you have questions, bring them to Me and expect Me to answer. I will reveal truth to you and teach you what you don’t understand. My wisdom will give you courage.”
Before you go!
It is good for our souls when we declare God’s truth! When we’re having a bad day, when we’re exhausted, confused, lonely, or depressed—we give ourselves a “shot” of courage as we turn and focus on the Lord, declaring His truth.

Here’s a prayer you can pray this week:
Heavenly Father, please open my eyes to Your amazing truth—that You are here for me, that You delight in me, that You haven’t forgotten me, and that You know what You’re doing. I ask that You would give me a special strength to turn and focus on You. Teach me how to worship You even in difficult times, and please fill me with Your courage so I can do what You’ve given me to do. You are GLORIOUS in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
