Declarations for Renewing Your Mind

Does the way you think draw you closer to God, or does it push you into shame and despair?

HOW YOU THINK shapes WHO YOU ARE (Prov. 23:7).

This month at BTO, we’re talking about emotional healing and praying for the health of your heart and mind. We look forward to hearing amazing testimonies of how you heard God’s voice, found healing and perfect rest in Him, and discovered how much you’re really loved!

One of the most important steps we can take toward healing is learning to think according to the Word of God. The Bible calls this process “renewing the mind.”

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Rom. 12:2 NASB)

May you be able to tap into God’s thoughts for you and start to walk in His incredible freedom!

Here are three Bible-based statements that are true for you today:

1. I am filled up with the mercy of God! I am not trapped by the world and what it says about me. My truth is what God says, and this very moment I am seated with Him in heavenly places.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions…[and] raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. (Eph. 2:4–6 NIV)

If we let it, the world will try to tell us who we are, how we should think, and how we should try to fit in. But you are a child of God, which means the world does not own you. It can’t tell you who you are and be right in that assessment (1 Cor. 1:18).

What is God saying about you today? Quiet your heart and listen for His voice. He might tell you something like this:

“Every request you make is important to Me. You are special—a sacred thing—to My heart, and I am going to take time and show you how much you matter to Me. Don’t listen to any voice that whispers worthlessness to you. That’s a lie.”

2. I don’t have to focus on my fears, worries, or what’s going wrong in my life! Instead I get to fix my thoughts on GOOD things.

So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. (Phil. 4:8 TPT)

When I am afraid,
I put my trust in you. (Ps. 56:3 ESV)

We don’t have to think about what the world thinks about. There may be some overlap from time to time, but our goal is to fix our eyes on Jesus and pay attention to what HE’S doing, saying, and thinking. If He wants us to think about something, great. If He doesn’t want us to think about something, also great.

Anytime you find yourself dealing with fear, remember you don’t have to go there—you get to think about godly things instead.

3. I am fearless! I am growing more and more like Jesus, and His love is the fire inside me. I am brave because of Him. I am powerful because of Him. I have amazing self-control because of Him.

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Tim. 1:7 ESV)

You are God’s child, and you’re here because of Jesus. Nothing in Jesus is afraid or hopeless or thinks like a victim. He is powerful and He calls you to be just like Him.

The Lord teaches us how to be fearless through simple trust. Every time we’re afraid, we get to turn and look at Him instead, reminding ourselves of His truth. The more we do this, the stronger our trust in Him will be. We can teach ourselves to look at Him instead of stirring up fear and anxious thoughts in our hearts.

Here’s our prayer for you this week:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for everything You’re doing in our readers’ lives today. We know You love them and are excited about the creative plans You have for them! You crafted these plans Yourself, with great love and power, and we ask that You would help Your much-loved children come into a deeper understanding of who they really are to Your heart. Please open their eyes to Your truth.

May they start to experience hope in the very areas where they thought there was no hope!

Before you go!

Many of us need to renew our minds in the area of fear of the future.

In an article titled “5 Tips for Overcoming Fear About the Future,” Kris Vallotton shares five great ways he conquers fear:

  1. I remind myself of things that I was afraid of in the past that never happened. Then I remind myself of how true they felt, but they didn’t happen. This helps me to remember that fear is a liar.

  2. I question reality in light of the previous lies, and a new perspective emerges.

  3. I make a conscious choice to trust my future to Jesus and remind myself of His care for me.

  4. I bring up my history with God. I recall the testimonies in my life as a way of retelling the scary story that was running in my mind.

  5. I bring up what God says about my future. I bring to mind the prophetic words over my life and remember that I have a bright future!

Do you feel energized as you read those steps? Be filled with hope, mighty child of God! Your heavenly Father loves you, and He has good things for you.
