What Is God Saying to Your Heart?
What has God been saying to your heart lately?
How has He refreshed you? How has He given you HOPE?
If you aren’t sure, here are a few things to consider. We know what His Word says about Him, and we can use His Word to help us start to recognize what He sounds like.
1. He’s the Teller of Secrets
Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know. (Jer. 33:3 NASB)
He wants you to walk in wisdom, so He will give you the wisdom you need—especially when you ask Him for it (Jas. 1:5).
He wants to show you the way, so He will talk to you about where you should go and what you should do. Sometimes this will feel like a very gentle leading inside your heart.
He wants to help you understand what’s happening around you, so He’ll tell you things about people and what you’re seeing and feeling.
He will be faithful to respond to you when you go to Him.
2. He’s Greater Than Anything Found on Earth
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. (Col. 3:1–2)
Jesus holds everything together (Col. 1:17), so He can tell you the secrets of the earth from a heavenly perspective.
The way God thinks is different than the way most people think. He thinks from “above,” while the world constantly tries to get people to think from “below.” So the Lord will tell you things that are heavenly and true—things that endure.
He will talk about His truth, so you can grow in truth.
3. He Is Utterly Lovely
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. (Phil. 4:8)
The Lord is excellent and worthy of praise, and everything He tells you will line up with Philippians 4:8.
Philippians 4:8 describes what God is like and how He thinks.
He is more precious than anything found in the world, so every single thing He tells you is worth its weight in gold. It’s a good idea to write down His words and keep them handy for later.
You will never find out that He has a bad plan for you or that He’s been thinking bad thoughts toward you. Everything He will ever tell you will be good for your heart and mind.
4. He Is LOVE, Not Human Fear
For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. (2 Tim. 1:7)
The Lord is power, so He’ll speak words that line up with His power. He won’t speak from a place of fear or anxiety.
He is love beyond anything the world offers, and every word He says will agree with His love.
He has the ability to control Himself and not fly off the handle when you do something you shouldn’t do. So you don’t ever have to be afraid that you’ll be cut off from Him because of a mistake.
He doesn’t give people a spirit of fear—He is pure victory.
Journaling Time
Spend some time with Jesus, a hot beverage, your journal, and a pen/pencil you really like. Ask Him to speak to you, and write down what you sense He says.
